Detailed Job Description

Reporting to the Director, supports development of and implements alumni programs to engage Berklee’s 50,000 alumni with the college, students, and fellow alumni.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • For selected region(s), creates and recommends to the Director the yearly Alumni Affairs calendar and budget by planning interactive outreach and events to increase college visibility and alumni engagement in assigned priority geographic areas
  • Manages and implements use of interactive media to expand alumni communications and programs, including the production and distribution of the monthly electronic newsletter. Leverages social networking tools to increase alumni engagement and support of marketing initiatives
  • Within assigned region(s), tracks, monitors, and analyzes performance of alumni programs, digital campaigns, and social media activities; provides assessment reports and strategies for future campaign development
  • Manages the alumni email transfer process. Coordinates with IT and the office of the registrar to obtain proper reports 3x a year as well as coordinating with Valencia and Berklee Online staff. Also responsible for working with various academic departments to help spread the word to students during their LHUM 400 classes.  
  • Manages the temporary alumni technical support position for email transfer process. 
  • Coordinating with Alumni Affairs and IA colleagues for assigned region(s), develops and manages regional alumni- focused social, educational, and career programs and events:
    • Promotes, markets and enrolls alumni in outreach programs and events. For example: Writes event descriptions to be published through electronic newsletters, direct email, print procures, invitations and the magazine
    • Coordinates event logistics, including booking event space, arranging food and beverage, ordering supplies and audiovisual equipment and manages RSVP list
    • Serves as Berklee Alumni Affairs Office ambassador and representative.
    • With the Director and fellow managers, evaluates event effectiveness and impact recording key measures like cost and attendance to guide future planning, including setting objectives and establishing budgets
  • Supports recruitment and engagement of alumni volunteers with the goal of establishing volunteer leadership program. These may include (but are not limited to) regional volunteer groups, reunions, prospective student engagement and recruitment, and student mentoring
  • With the Director, evaluates requests made by other members of the college for communication, information, and/or events with alumni from their respective departments
  • Coordinates and assists with the department’s social media strategy and campaigns alongside the alumni affairs social media manager. 
  • With respect to selected region(s), coordinates with departments across campus to engage alumni, create alumni programs, and foster communication between departments on all college initiatives that involve alumni including (but not limited to) Admissions, Berklee Valencia, Career Development Center, Enrollment and the Office of Experiential Learning
  • Oversees, hires and manages student employees and temporary staff as required for departmental projects. 
  • As appropriate, serves as a member of campus cross-departmental boards including the Social Media Manager’s board, and the blog manager’s board
  • Supports Admissions Alumni Rep program and volunteer opportunities with the Admissions department by helping to recruit alumni from selected region(s)
  • Supports development of alternative methods for delivering programming, volunteer training and communications including the use of webcasts, video, web/video conferencing and other distance-based technology
  • Provides exceptional customer service, communicating professionally and effectively with staff, faculty, students, alumni and campus visitors
  • Work with the Career Development Center in coordinating mentor program and assist with alumni outreach for mentors 
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated capacity to develop & maintain effective working relationships with individuals & organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences.

Required Experience

Qualities and experiences that ideal candidates should display include:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.
  • Three to five or more years working in a similar position for a complex not-for-profit institution with documented experience in building strong alumni outreach programs virtually and in person.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how alumni affairs interacts and is integral to a successful advancement program.
  • Appreciation for the Berklee mission.
  • Some familiarity with contemporary music, leading musical figures, and music technology.


Preference will be given to candidates that also display one or more of the following:

  • Event planning experience with knowledge in the use of event registration systems (Eventbrite)
  • Berklee alumna/alumnus
