SMC-158

This is a one hundred percent (100%) time term position beginning as soon as possible. Continued appointment is dependent on periodic performance reviews, and extension of appointment is subject to availability of grant funds.

Description of Duties and Position: To oversee and perform molecular and cell biological studies. General duties include:

  1. General laboratory maintenance including ordering supplies for the laboratory, maintaining laboratory equipment and maintaining compliance records.
  2. Various biochemical and molecular biological techniques such as cloning, plasmid preparation, RNA isolation, RT-PCR, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, chromatin precipitation, and in situ hybridization.
  3. Cell culture experience including the generation of stable cell lines and protein expression in mammalian cell lines.
  4. Mouse dissections and preparation of tissues for histology.
  5. Managing a colony of mice for grant-funded studies.
  6. Supervising and assisting lower level researchers and students.
  7. Data analysis and planning of experiments.
  8. Assist in preparation of abstracts and papers.

Minimum Qualifications: Researcher III applicants are required to have a MA/MS degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Physiology with at least two years of laboratory experience or a BA/BS degree with at least six years of laboratory experience in molecular biology, physiology, biochemistry or cellular biology. Supervisory experience in overseeing an active research laboratory is desired. Those with demonstrated experience in molecular and cellular techniques and the ability function independently will be given preference.

Salary: Researcher III minimum starting salary is $2,746.67 per month.
