Business Affairs

Provide executive leadership for all information technology activities in support of the mission of the University. Reporting to the Vice President of Business Affairs, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a key member of the university leadership team and will bring a strong strategic orientation and vision of how information technology can support the campus community. The CIO will oversee the delivery of technology services and maintain a secure infrastructure to meet users’ needs, ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, create and take advantage of efficiencies in operations, and support innovation in teaching, learning and scholarship. Working in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, the CIO will be asked to address a set of key opportunities and challenges

Basic Function:

• Develop an enterprise technology, knowledge, data security, and information management strategy
• Develop solutions for complex business problems that require ingenuity and innovation
• Manage business and technical teams to ensure all projects meet strategic objectives
• Responsible for locating IT and business resources and organizing, manipulating, filtering, and presenting corresponding information in support of enterprise objectives
• Identify best practices throughout the organization and communicate/implement these practices on an enterprise level
• Provide overall management, technical and financial direction for strategic enterprise IT projects
• Analyze enterprise program requirements and anticipate resources (e.g., staffing, costs) needed to meet objectives
• Stay current in new technologies and platforms
• Direct and manage an ERP implementation and other major projects to completion
• Create and sustain business literacy and understanding of business processes in the IT organization
• Facilitate communication between all key IT groups and customer community
• Establish and maintain a high level of client trust and confidence in the team’s knowledge of, and concern for, client’s business issues
• Develop and lead the implementation of a highly effective IT strategy in support of the university’s mission and strategic goals
• Develop a governance structure to support an evolving IT vision
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and management to provide innovative technological approaches to advance the University’s mission
• Responsible for overall direction, selection, conversion and routine management of information technology products, systems and services
• Provide leadership direction in the review of new software and hardware acquisitions
• Develop consistent quality standards for vendors and manages vendor performance to ensure consistency with quality and contract standards
• Develop and monitor compliance regarding IT policies and procedures as well as IT operating and service standards
• Provide leadership in the development of ongoing educational programs for campus and online education courses, to insure optimal staff utilization of current technologies, upgrades of existing technologies, and exploration of new technologies
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques in a highly complex environment using leading-edge technology and/or diverse user systems
• Develop new system approaches to solve problems and seize opportunities for sustaining business success
• History of implementing enterprise wide ERP, CRM, and data security systems
• Demonstrated successful experience with Internet applications to information management
• Demonstrated ability to ensure the effective performance of information technology within the organization
• Demonstrated vendor management skills
• Evidence of successful leadership of teams and task forces as well as the involvement, integration, inclusion and inspiration of direct reports
• Examples of creativity or innovation solutions to problems
• Comfort in the University world – a setting that borrows the best from such venues as other private and public institutions, think tanks and professional firms
• A track record of operating proactively

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with an IT focus required
• Graduate degree in Business or Management or equivalent work experience preferred
• 10 – 15 years’ experience of increasingly responsible management and operational experience in IT Management
• Drive enterprise objectives through ability to, predict, analyze, and manage cultural and technological changes within the organization
• Understanding of technology directions, trends, and strategic business impact of key business and IT initiatives.
• Through knowledge and understanding of business principles, processes, and technology
• Strong business planning, analytical, and conceptual skills
• Ability to create original concepts and take heuristic approaches for testing/refining existing theories and processes
• Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects of various diverse scope in a cross-functional environment
