The Automotive department invites qualified applicants for a tenure track position starting at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is expected to teach undergraduate automotive courses, direct engaged lectures that link to performance-based lab projects, create innovative instructional materials, and supervise extracurricular activities as assigned. This position might teach day, evening, off-campus, online, and summer courses as needed and assigned. Engages in scholarly activities and updated training on an annual basis. Performs student engaged applied research projects. Works with industry advisory committees. Participates in professional associations. Participates in program assessment and development activities related in accreditation. Assumes an active role in the planning and governance of the institution through service on department, college and campus-wide committees. Assists in recruitment, advisement, placement and follow-up of students. Engages students in projects with outside organizations and community. Attracts funding to the college through grants and other sources.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor degree in a related field, and an AS or AAS degree in automotive. Teaching experience on a secondary or post secondary level.
Preferred candidates have achieved or working on a Masters degree in a closely related field.
Complete understanding of automotive science and technology.
Knowledge of ASE certifications.
Knowledge and understanding of advance vehicle systems, diagnostics, brake systems, steering, suspension, advance engine performance, alternative fuels and their related systems, and power sport systems to include two and four stroke engines.
Skills and experience with technical repairs.
Skills in repair of brake systems, engine repair and diagnostics, steering and suspension, electrical systems, alternative fueled vehicles, and power sport equipment.
Skills in the area of human relations, effective communication, and conflict resolution.
Ability to manage groups of students, keep them on task, and evaluate performance.
Ability to communicate effectively in a wide variety of settings.
Ability to analyze and diagnose mechanical and electrical systems.
