Detailed Job Description

Creates and maintains a productive learning environment for students in the vocal area. Teaches private vocal instruction, opera classes, and other courses based on needs of the department and the candidate’s areas of expertise, such as vocal pedagogy, diction and literature courses. Carries out vocal area duties, such as auditions, juries, performance classes, recruiting, adjunct faculty and collaborative pianist assignments and evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate in music and teaching experience at the college/university level required.


Knowledge of principles and methodology of voice.

Knowledge of opera and music theater direction and production.


Proven skills as an accomplished teacher, vocal coach, and production director.

Skills in recruiting, auditioning and placement of students.


Ability to develop curriculum and teach assigned courses.

Ability to oversee the planning, management, and direction of opera and music theater productions.

Ability to engage students in learning and performing opportunities on campus and in the community.

Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty and others.

Pay Range

$52,000 - $54,000
