Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Lecturer - Integrated Studies will: teach upper division courses in IS, primarily IS topics, Capstone 1 and 2; develop a learning environment and activities that integrate several disciplines, provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives; support the guiding concepts for the college which are embodied in the UVU's mission statement.
Prepare for and conduct classes with professionalism and relevant expertise, passion, and engagement. Plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved course of study for each course taught.
Prepare all instructional materials (to include course syllabi, exams, readings, instructions, visual aids, and other materials) in electronic and paper formats.
Establish and maintain office hours. Communicate well and in a timely fashion with students (e.g. giving them their grades in a timely manner, being available to speak with students frequently and regularly; provide mentoring support and guidance for IS students.
Maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
Work collaboratively and collegiality with faculty in the Integrated Studies Department. Attend faculty meetings as required in the Department. Report to and discuss matters related to the position with Department Chair.
Uphold professional and ethical standards.
Actively engage students in lecturers and discussion.
Foster and engage in collegial relations with the community.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D., ABD, and have teaching experience at a college or university level, OR, extensive experience as an artist, broadly defined, and teaching experience at the college or university level.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated excellence in teaching (e.g., through student and peer evaluations) or performance in their chosen art.
Ability to enthuse and motivate students, drawing them toward the IS major, and deepening their interest in integrated studies.
Ability to develop curriculum and teach design courses.
Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty and others effectively.
Ability to apply multimedia hardware/software in classroom teaching.
