The University of the Incarnate Word seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, and collaborative colleague for the position of Interior Design Visiting Instructor for the 2016-17 academic year. This is a full-time, temporary position with a 4/4 teaching load plus additional duties in preparation for re-accreditation with CIDA. The Interior Design Program is CIDA accredited and offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Applicants must have experience practicing interior design both residential and commercial. Must have prior experience teaching in an interior design program and must be able to relate course content to both the design and CIDA outcomes and assessment. In addition, applicant must be an active member of IDEC, ASID,AIA or IIDA. Applicant must be able to take initiative, work collaboratively in a team, and thrive in a demanding environment. Must be able to exercise flexibility and adaptability. Strong communication and interpersonal skills reflected by the ability to communicate effectively with very diverse constituencies both inside and outside UIW.
Description of Job Duty
Official duties and responsibilities: Faculty members at the University are primarily engaged in teaching, scholarship (related to area of expertise), and professional activities. Faculty are also expected to engage in service to the program area, school, university, profession, and community. Additional responsibilities include preparation for CIDA re-accreditation, advising and mentoring students, and working to advance the Interior Design program. Faculty must work collaboratively with other departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.
MFA/MA in Interior Design (or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching field) from an accredited institution of higher education.
Required Work Experience
Demonstrated teaching experience (3+ years) in higher education. Must have:
1. Relevant professional experience in the field of Interior Design and familiarity ofCIDA Accreditation Standards.
2. Experience coordinating CIDA accreditation leading to a successful CIDA re-accreditation.
Demonstrated teaching experience at the higher education level. Professional experience in the field of interior design.
