Responsible for the development, implementation and administration of Miami University’s compensation program.

Develop and direct strategic planning in the design, implementation of compensation programs for the university (e.g. classification structure, job evaluation process, market pricing, local/state/national survey participation, incentive programs and compensation processes).


  • Direct supervision of compensation unit staff; hourly and salary positions
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures recommending plan revision as well as new plans that are cost effective and consistent with compensation trends and Miami University objectives; coordinates implementation and provides guidance to Miami University faculty/staff.
  • Develops and provides advice to Miami University faculty/staff on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs.
  • Manages the administration of direct compensation (exempt and nonexempt cash compensation programs) for Miami University faculty/staff including the processing, recording and reporting of compensation-related actions.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data.
  • Supervises the participation in and conduct of both exempt and nonexempt salary surveys to ensure university compensation objectives are achieved.
  • Conduct periodic assessment to determine future needs of university for pay, reward design and classification systems
  • Remain current with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and document procedures to streamline processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and work with HR staff to educate managers.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least seven years of directly related experience.  Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations. Experience with Microsoft Office products, and at a minimum intermediate excel skills (pivot tables, formula functions etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in a related field. PHR, SPHR, CCP or related Human Resources certification
