As Senior Technology Licensing Associate, the incumbent is responsible for senior level technology transfer activities. These activities will include technology evaluation, managing of patent, plant patent, and/or trademark filings and prosecution by outside legal counsel, filing applications for Plant Variety Protection certificates, and copyright registration; marketing intellectual properties; drafting, negotiating, and concluding option agreements and license agreements; patented and patent-pending technologies as well as research tools; and monitoring/ensuring contractual compliance.
The incumbent is also responsible for negotiating and concluding Interinstitutional Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, Plant Propagation Agreements, and Plant Testing Agreements.
The Senior Technology Licensing Associate will work closely with WSU inventors and administrators, the Washington State Attorney General’s office, outside patent counsel, licensing attorneys, industry representatives, and economic development associations in the conduct of technology transfer activities. These technology transfer activities will be conducted under the direction of the Director of the Office of Commercialization or his/her designee.
A Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, physical science or engineering with a broad technical knowledge base AND five (5) years experience in technology transfer. A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. A doctoral degree in a related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.
Advanced degree in science or business, a background in marketing and licensing intellectual property, knowledge of contract law, and/or experience in business development.
Demonstrated experience in managing contracts related to a university-based research effort.
Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain harmonious working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to work with a varied clientele and to manage in a team working environment.
