IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Laurel University Board of Trustees

 General Summary:

The President of Laurel University is the Chief Executive Officer of the University who initiates, guides, and directs University activities necessary to fulfill the University’s mission.  The President is responsible for overall University operations and reports directly to the Board of Trustees.  This position requires a visionary and strategic thinker who provides strong and capable leadership in addressing the academic, operational, and strategic issues facing the University.

 Critical elements of this responsibility are to develop and maintain strong partnerships with the community at large, to address enrollment requirements, to build financial stability, to plan and lead fundraising activities, to work collaboratively within and outside the University, and to build consensus and enthusiasm for common goals among the various stakeholders of the University, including faculty, staff, students, and the outside community.

 Scope of management includes:  academic departments, physical facilities, human resources, admissions, curriculum application and development, finance, marketing, registration and records, pre-admissions, and student services.


 Financial Management:

The President is responsible for overseeing the business and financial affairs of the University, including preparation of the annual budget and managing operations to ensure the continued financial viability and health of the institution.  Further, it is the responsibility of the President to lead the fund raising efforts for the institution.

 Academic Affairs: 

The President will oversee the academic affairs of the University to ensure that the programs offered and resources employed are fulfilling the mission of the institution and that they remain viable according to academic demands of the student population.  The President also promotes the free exchange of ideas in all areas of the University.

 Student Affairs: 

The President is responsible for student activities, admissions, registration, records, academic progress, counseling, housing, placement, financial aid, and other academic and nonacademic functions.

 Legal Affairs:

The President has the responsibility and accountability for legal affairs and actions in all areas of the University having to do with the institution itself or its employees acting as agents for the institution.

 General Administration:

The President is responsible for overseeing facilities operations, auxiliary services, and personnel administration.  This responsibility includes the physical plant, the purchase of supplies and equipment, the maintenance of appropriate records in accordance with state and federal laws, and accreditation agency requirements.

 Representation of Laurel University:

The President ensures that all employees of the University represent the institution in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, local and state officials, businesses and organizations, and the community at large.  In addition, the President is expected to maintain high visibility in the community and beyond.

 Institutional Effectiveness:

The President directs the ongoing evaluation of educational programs, student services, and University operations; on the basis of such evaluations he or she institutes revisions of programs and services, with Board approval as appropriate.  The President also ensures compliance with existing accreditation standards and will pursue regional accreditation.
