Detailed Job Description

Description of Position: One or more variable time Lecturers in the Department of Educational Administration and Higher Education, College of Education and Human Services, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This is a term, non-Tenure-Track appointment for Fall 2015 semester and is contingent on available funding. Additional semester appointments may be possible contingent on available funding and demand for teaching assignments. The selected individual(s) will provide instruction to masters and doctoral students related to qualitative research methods and design, higher education administration and student affairs.

Effective Date: August 16, 2015.


  1. Teach courses on the graduate level (master's and doctoral) in qualitative research.
  2. Teach courses within the field of higher education related to area(s) of expertise.
  3. Assist the advising of graduate students relative to the application of qualitative research methods to their dissertation and other projects.
  4. Serve on master's and doctoral committees.
  5. Serve the constituencies of the Department, College, and University as approved/assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Completed doctorate with a specialization in higher education, student affairs, or related area, with a dissertation that used applied qualitative research methodology.
  2. Previous college/university teaching experience in or related to applicant's area of specialization.
  3. Knowledge and experience in qualitative research methodology as applied to education relating to applicant's area of specialization.
  4. Established expertise within the fields of higher education and/or student affairs.
  5. Oral proficiency in the English language as required by Illinois State law.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of application of qualitative research methods beyond dissertation such as conference presentations, refereed publications, etc.
  2. Evidence of academic knowledge of higher education as illustrated through conference presentations, refereed publications, etc.
  3. College/university teaching experience in the applicant's area of specialization.
