Assistant Professors of Philosophy
Two faculty positions at the Asst Prof level, tenure-track, beginning Sept 1, 2012 2-semester academic year. 6 course teaching load is typical; all levels undergraduate. Teaching in the Core curriculum expected, as is an active research program. Summer or January intersession teaching, with stipend, available. Usual non-teaching service duties. Ph.D. prior to appointment. Salary competitive.
AOS: We seek candidates with specialization(s) in one or more of our identified current needs: (1) philosophy of science or social science; (2) applied ethics, especially with a commitment to teaching business ethics and engineering ethics; (3) contemporary continental philosophy (we do not have current needs for “classical” contemporary philosophy, e.g., Sartre or Heidegger); (4) neurophilosophy, understood as the following: we seek candidates whose work/research concerns the application of the findings of or the concepts of neuroscience to traditional philosophical questions about, e.g., human nature, the self, choice, responsibility, autonomy, and issues in ethics.
