Job Summary

The Skidmore College Counseling Center invites applications for a part-time Psychiatric Consultant position. This is a renewable 9-month appointment that will commence in mid-August and end in mid-May. The position involves providing 6-10 hours/week of direct patient care and 1 hour/week of clinical consultation with Counseling Center staff. Scheduling of hours is flexible from semester to semester.

We are seeking a compassionate and energetic provider with experience in treating a diverse population of traditional college-aged young adults. The psychiatric consultant works closely with the Counseling Center clinical team to coordinate care for students engaged in short-term psychotherapy services at the Center. The psychiatric provider participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team planning, provides psycho-pharmacological evaluation and treatment, and provides consultation as needed to ensure quality care.

The Counseling Center provides a range of services to the Skidmore College campus, including crisis intervention, short-term individual and group psychotherapy, after-hours on-call, third-party consultation, and outreach programming. Students present with a range of developmental and psychiatric issues, including: anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and substance abuse. We are committed to providing our students with prompt, effective, and sensitive clinical care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and a commitment to professional development are required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

MD or NP degree; board certification; proof of current NYS licensure and medical liability insurance; prescription privileges.  

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the stated minimum qualifications, preferred qualifications include: excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; professional experience working with college students; thorough and current knowledge of psychopharmacological evaluation and intervention; demonstrated ability to work as part of a treatment team.
