Implement and coordinate all aspects of the academic support program for the intercollegiate athletic program. Work in support of the student athlete academic support services (SAASS). This is a full-time, 12 month position. This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

Duties

Coordinate and prescribe support systems and services for student athletes (i.e., tutoring, learning disabilities, student counseling, SEP, academic support courses, etc.) Counsel and advise student athletes regarding coursework, coping strategies, social environment and graduation. Develop and implement systematic application of learning interventions and study strategies in the areas of time management, learning style, critical reading, note taking, test taking, etc. for individual students as needed. Monitor and supervise academic progress of assigned student athletes through one to one meetings, coordination of support services and academic evaluations to professors. Teach KNH 112 "Transitional Skills for the New College Student." Assess student learning needs and develop, implement and monitor academic success plans with small groups and individual students. Oversee and assist in the academic advising process within the context of existing department advising programs. Monitor academic progress of all student athletes through academic evaluations to professors. Provide team outreach and follow-up to students and coaches. Facilitate the organization and implementation of individualized study and review sessions for students. Serve as a liaison and referral source for University resources, i.e., Office of Diversity Affairs, Student Counseling Center, Rinella Learning Center, and Career Services, etc. Track and document student athletes' academic performance. Meet individually with student recruits and parents during the recruiting process to explain academic support services. Prepare reports pertaining to position responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned. Assist with delivery of program services during Summer Orientation and Registration Program.
Consult with and advise university staff and faculty on student athlete issues, and respond to inquiries regarding ICA academic support issues.


 

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in education, Student Affairs & Higher Education, counseling, or closely related field; demonstrated ability to work with diverse students; teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with student-athletes or an athletic program; academic advising; 1-3 years of experience in higher education.
