Detailed Job Description

Berklee College of Music invites applications for a part-time faculty position, teaching up to 17 hours per week in the Bass Department. Reporting to the Chair and Assistant Chair of the Bass Department, this faculty member’s primary responsibilities will be teaching Electric Bass. The ideal candidate has a strong body of recorded work on the Electric Bass, as well as international teaching and clinic experience. Strong doubling on Double Bass is also preferred. Initial appointment to begin September 2016. Compensation is competitive and is commensurate with professional experience. 


  • Teach private lessons and labs, up to 17 hours per week
  • Support student development of various performance styles
  • Teach performance skills including, but not limited to, reading, groove, technical proficiency, improvisation, and stylistic diversity
  • Assist in the development of courses related to the study of bass
  • Advise students
  • Participate actively and support the goals and mission statement (add link) of the Bass Department

Experience and Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years teaching experience at the post-secondary level or comparable clinic and master-class tours
  • An international reputation as a player and educator
  • Wide-ranging familiarity with industry-related technology
  • Bachelor’s degree, minimum, Master’s preferred, or commensurate professional experience
  • The ability and aptitude to assimilate the Bass Department curriculum as it has developed at Berklee and build upon it
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
