Duration of Employment:
The SUSI Coordinator will provide logistical and planning support for the entire institute, serving as administrative oversight. During the academic year, the Coordinator will work on reporting, an active SUSI Alumni group, and serve the Center for Civic Engagement by coordinating volunteer activities (Days of Service, STAYcation, etc.). A detailed job description is provided upon selection for interview.
From 2013-2015, the MUH Center for Civic Engagement received $719,000 in grant funding to host the Study of the United States Institute on Civic Engagement, one of only two programs on SUSI Civic Engagement in the nation. Funded by the United States Department of State, Miami Hamilton hosted over 50 student leaders from various colleges in Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, Zambia (2013); Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Palestinian Territories (2014), and Egypt, Tunisia, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan & Syria (2015) for a 5- week residential institute on participatory democracy and civic engagement in the United States. Our Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) on Civic Engagement were so successful, our Center has applied to host another cohort of 22 international students from Europe for Summer 2016 (contingent upon grant approval).
Bachelor’s Degree in international studies, political science, humanities, liberal studies, civic & regional development, education, or other related field.
Must be able to LIVE-IN the Miami residence hall with both international, regional fellows during Institute Dates (finalized Spring 2016). Overnights are required for this position.
Ability to drive University vehicles, can pass the test in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Rental Policy at Miami University
Must have the ability to multi-task, and work in close collaboration with staff from all facets of the Institute.
Must be organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills
Subject to background check for Institute service placements
Master’s Degree in humanities, student development, education, higher education or other related field; professional interest in civic engagement, service, and international experiences, some experience supervising undergraduate students; some experience in residence life.
