This is a great opportunity for an individual with a strong interest in Human Resources who is looking to gain great hands-on experience and knowledge of mergers as Berklee College of Music prepares to merge with The Boston Conservatory. The ideal HR Office Intern will learn how various functional areas of HR operate and the crucial role Human Resources plays within an organization.

Under the general guidance of the Human Resources Office Coordinator, the Human Resources Office Intern helps serve as the face of the Human Resources department for all visitors and guests to the Human Resources suite. Equally important, primary responsibilities of this role include providing administrative support for the Human Resources department as directed by the HR Office Coordinator. This position plays an integral role in ensuring effective and efficient organization of day-to-day administrative responsibilities throughout the office. The HR Office Intern will be able to guide their internship experience and be involved in project work as needed.

The HR Office Intern will work in a positive, fast-paced environment, independently managing multiple administrative tasks with competing priorities and will handle sensitive confidential information on a daily basis. Serving as administrative support for the Human Resources staff specifically to the HR Office Coordinator, this position will engage, collaborate, and provide support to all functional areas within Human Resources.


1) Learn. This will be a great experience for the ideal individual to learn about Human Resources and the crucial role this department plays in an organization. He/she will be exposed to many different areas of Human Resources and have an opportunity to learn as they contribute to the success of the department.

2) Administrative Support.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting visitors, triaging phone calls, and other functional administrative responsibilities including onboarding of employees, and other interesting HR related tasks.

3) HR team support. Assist with employment hiring and separation paperwork. prepare letters for staff promotions, transfer, new hires, etc. Also assists the Recruiter/Immigration Coordinator with related projects and tasks. May provide additional support to HR Business Partners and Benefits and HRIS teams as needed. Serves as additional support to the VP for Human Resources.

4) Employee Files. Works with the Employee Relations/Staffing team, HRIS team and the Benefits team in maintaining and updating employee files (active, inactive, termed). Creates and organizes new employee files. Maintains I-9 binders that are locked away separately, along with CORI Checks.

5) New Hire Processing. Assists HR Office Coordinator in facilitating offer letter creation, assists candidates during pre-employment screening, helps in submitting background checks and completes I-9 process. Assists with data entry of new employees. 

6) Data Entry. Communicates with hiring manager to coordinate the effective on-boarding process for new employees. Coordinates paperwork for new staff members, including the handling of CORI background checks and associated paperwork. 

7) Other duties as assigned and will opportunity to work on projects of interest to you.

Required Skills

  • Strong computer skills required, including: good working knowledge of Excel, MS Office, word processing, data entry and experience utilizing the Internet and network communications.
  • Strong interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong organizational skills required.
  • Detail-oriented, with a keen attention to ensuring accuracy.
  • Positive approach, mature, professional presence, and commitment to outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing tasks and follow through to ensure accurate completion of detailed oriented tasks is essential.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop & maintain effective working relationships with individuals & organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters in a professional, discrete, and mature manner. Ability to diffuse situations that may potentially escalate
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop & maintain effective working relationships with individuals & organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences.
  • Preferably, a student in pursuit of a degree in Human Resources or Business Management with strong interest in Human Resources.
  • Some administrative office experience is preferred; HR experience desirable but not required.
