Frostburg State University, Office of Human Resources, seeks applications for a full-time, exempt Senior Human Resources Specialist position to begin July 2016. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience; University System of Maryland benefits package included. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, perform a wide range of HR-related duties primarily related to the development, implementation, and administration of Classification and Compensation programs, policies, and practices. Determine proper job classification and compensation range for new and existing positions. Perform job analyses and evaluate employee reclassification requests. Assure that compensation is consistently administered in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Develop and/or revise exempt and nonexempt pay programs as necessary and appropriate. Represent FSU in classification/compensation discussions with other USM institutions. Use HRIS to query, analyze, and prepare reports on employee data. Respond to market salary surveys and internal salary reviews. Analyze data and recommend approaches to resolve equity and compensation issues. Monitor competitive trends and influences affecting compensation. Research contemporary compensation solutions for issues such as how to attract, develop, and retain a qualified and diverse workforce. Create spreadsheets, organizational charts, reports, training presentations, and other documents as required. Accuracy, objectivity, and attention to detail are essential.
Also assist with various HR departmental initiatives, programs, and events, as well as serve on project teams and committees as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned, which may include work on new and creative technology solutions, expanded outreach and communications, workforce management, employee relations, and employee training and development, among other areas.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Mathematics, or related field. Five or more years of HR-related work experience including compensation experience of a specific or generalist nature. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. A demonstrated customer service approach along with excellent written and oral communication, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work well under pressure. Ability to make difficult decisions and communicate them in a clear and objective manner maintaining an appropriate level of confidentiality at all times and in all situations.
Preferred Qualifications: PeopleSoft experience. Membership in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and/or leading HR credentials such as PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or CCS (Certified Compensation Specialist) designation. Prior employment in higher education. Experience working with data and predictive analytics.
Other: Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and progressively responsible related work experience may be considered.
