Under the direction of the leadership of the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, the Default Prevention Manager performs daily Default Prevention duties along with processing financial aid reports, counsels students, parents, and others regarding various financial aid matters; evaluates student financial aid files; and makes adjustments and recalculations on student financial aid files. Ensures a high standard of accuracy and compliance of federal student aid regulations.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus three to five years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.
Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to federal student aid including need analysis, eligibility assessment, packaging strategies, loan awarding, and default prevention.
Knowledge of federal student aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Knowledge of automated federal student aid management systems.
Knowledge and skills in tracing skip borrowers.
Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Excellent organizational and computer skills with competency in using a variety of electronic tools to manage student default status data.
Effective listening and responding skills with customers (e.g. students, staff, management etc.).
Superior organizational and problem resolution skills.
Student advocate mentality to help meet default prevention goals.
Ability to meet deadlines and perform in fast-paced, multi-tasking environments.
Self-starter and ability to effectively prioritize tasks to meet deadlines required.
Perseverance and determination to achieve the lowest possible default rates required.
The ability to compile, organize, and analyze data received from the U.S. Department of Education to determine what student population is defaulting on loans, and the ability to strategize how best to reach these students in an effective way.
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy for all job responsibilities.
Ability to obtain accesses to Federal Government databases pertaining to federal student aid.
