Synopsis of Role:

The Center of Excellence (CoE) Director is a key leader in the development and management of the CoE. The Director is responsible for leading the CoE and sustaining a vibrant culture focused on student interaction and research. This key position is responsible for ensuring rigorous graduate co-curricular offerings geared towards academic excellence, innovation continuous improvement. This position demands a sustained focus on cutting-edge pedagogy as well as a commitment to establishing APUS as a recognized leader in online graduate education.

Duties:

  • Works closely with the Policy Studies Organization to develop that relationship and provides a presence, when needed, at the main office in DuPont Circle as well as PSO sponsored conferences nationwide.
  • Works with faculty on developing individual research agendas and advising them on scholarly activities and development.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for our strategic partner relationships and works on developing new ones.
  • Collaborates directly with school directors to help design and implement innovative teaching resources within the classroom.
  • Interfaces directly with outside organizations in order to provide internship opportunities for our students.

·Works with faculty to determine appropriate independent study research projects and coordinates with Scheduling, Classroom Support, and the Registrar to create the class in Sakai.

·Collaborates directly with the Center for Corporate and Professional Development to develop and grow new programs for the school.

·Routinely work with the Marketing department to ensure that successes in the center are well advertised.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure that all new initiatives are within the guidelines provided by our accrediting bodies and related organizations.
  • Maintain related metrics and conduct data analysis on persistence and retention.
  • Participate in regular department meetings and school program review meetings.
  • Teach 150 students per year.

Required Skills

  • Detailed working knowledge of the inner workings of an online university system and electronic classroom platforms.
  • Knowledge of grant writing process and ability to discover new grant opportunities for the school.
  • Ability to create a professional network including commercial vendors and various government officials.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Flexibility in dealing with organizational change.
  • Strong proficiency with business models and strategic planning is required.
  • Ability to meet critical and short notice delivery deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and on various committees.
  • Ability to lead through consensus building.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in a security and global studies discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  • Three or more years of experience and recognized expertise in strategic planning, preferably within a higher education institution.
  • Experience in online education preferred.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and strong organizational development skills.
  • Well versed in social science research methodology.
  • A proven track record of research, scholarship, successful grant writing and publications.
  • Strong oral, written, organizational, and presentation skills and a proven record of effective team building and relationship building.
