Performs installation, configuration, administration, and tuning of hardware systems and software application products in support of organizational functions. Researches and tests implementation strategies for new hardware platforms supporting software systems. Follows organizational standards for maintaining efficient and effective systems. May be responsible for some scripting and systems integration as needed. Ensures optimal performance and high availability of hardware and applications. Provides technical support and troubleshooting assistance on systems hardware and software application related issues.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field plus three years of work experience in IT or a combination of education and experience in a related field totaling seven years.
This is a career ladder position – incumbent will be placed on their education and experience:
Systems Administrator I: BS Info Tech or related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience totaling four years.
Systems Administrator II: BS in Info Tech plus one year work experience or a combination of relevant education and experience totaling five years. Three of which must be directly related to the administering and maintaining enterprise level IT systems.
Systems Administrator III: BS in Info Tech plus three years work experience or a combination of relevant education and experience totaling seven years. Four of which must be directly related to the administering and maintaining enterprise level IT systems.
Knowledge of industry standard methods and best practices in Systems Administration.
Strong knowledge of server hardware, virtualization, operating systems, and systems level services.
Knowledge of Storage Infrastructure, systems, and interfaces.
Knowledge of multiple-tier application architecture.
Knowledge of security, backups, and disaster recovery.
Knowledge of clustering, redundant systems, and high availability.
Knowledge of Networking, TCP/IP, and load balancing.
Knowledge of databases and various scripting languages for systems automation.
Skills in problem solving, analysis, ingenuity, and research
Skills in organization, planning, prioritization, and attention to detail.
Skills in communication, training, mentoring, customer service, and interpersonal relations.
Skills in scripting, documentation, and use of Office applications
