Candidates for this position are expected to exhibit potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to develop a high quality, externally funded research program, as well as teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.


The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in theoretical Condensed Matter Physics. The appointment should begin 16th August 2016.

The successful candidate has the opportunity to collaborate with physics faculty in the highly successful, interdisciplinary MINT Center (mint.ua.edu) and/or other faculty in Chemistry and Engineering. In particular, the successful candidate’s research expertise is expected to complement existing theoretical and experimental work in the area of magnetic materials, spintronics, and confined systems. The new faculty member would benefit from the extensive existing computing infrastructure at MINT and the University of Alabama. The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field and an outstanding record of research accomplishments. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. Candidates for this position are expected to exhibit potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to develop a high quality, externally funded research program, as well as teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
