The position provides clinical office support in both the front office (greets patients, schedules appointment, checks-in/out patients, schedules tests, and obtains pre-certifications/referrals) and the back office (rooms patients, performs vitals, assists with patient exam and/or procedures, schedules tests, and obtains precertification).

High school diploma or equivalent, in addition to graduation from a recognized Medical Assistant Program; supplemented with one (1) year previous medical experience (an externship at SLU may be substituted for one year experience); current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current certification or registration as a medical assistant.
Prepares patients for physician’s visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs; assists with exams, tests, and special procedures as directed; may be required to draw blood, collect urine, provide wound care, and give immunizations and medications under the direction of a physicians; and documents all actions in Electronic Health Records.
Answers phone and responds to inquiries; refers, routes or places calls; and documents telephone encounters in Electronic Health Records.
Schedules surgeries and tests; and obtains authorization/pre-certification.
Requests previous medical records or outside records from appropriate sources; completes request for confidential transfer of medical records; and reviews medical records for completeness.
Performs other duties as assigned.
