Frostburg State University, Department of Student & Community Involvement, seeks applications for a full-time, exempt Technical/Event Services Coordinator position to begin summer 2016. The successful candidate will assume primary responsibility for the technical and event services operation in Lane University Center and other campus venues. Salary commensurate with experience and includes University System of Maryland benefits package.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Lane University Center, the Technical/Event Services Coordinator manages the technical services program; recruits, trains, and supervises a student production crew; oversees setups and provides logistical support for events. Hangs and focuses lights, including intelligent fixtures, and operates ETC, Grand MA lighting, and Vista lighting consoles. Operates sound equipment, including live mixing, patching, and use of Yamaha sound consoles. Performs minor technical repairs and general maintenance of lighting, sound, and other equipment, including motorized rigging systems. Consults with clients who are planning events; compiles cost estimates. Produces the technical vision for events, including production, lighting and sound design, as well as support documentation to guide staff in the management and execution of events. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in technical theater, theater arts, technical production, or related area. One or two years of experience with technical theater, technical direction, technical production, or related field. Knowledge of live entertainment, theatrical and special event lighting, and live sound reinforcement. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to deal with clients, provide detailed customer service, and meet production deadlines. Valid non-commercial driver’s license. Must be available to work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications: Three or more years of experience working in a technical/event services field. Experience working with students in a higher education setting. Specific knowledge of ETC dimming and consoles, including the Smart Fade, Smart Fade ML, and Ion. Knowledge of Grand MA lighting, including the dot2 console. Knowledge of Yamaha sound consoles, including the LS9, CL, and M7. Familiarity with audiovisual production and operation, including video projection and AV systems such as Crestron and Extron. Experience with event scheduling software such as EMS.
Other: Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a related field and progressively responsible related work experience may be considered.
