FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION: DEVELOPMENTAL READING: (Department of Academic Preparation, Division of Foundational Studies and Liberal Arts and Sciences) (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: September 2013. Position contingent on available funding.
Teach all levels of developmental reading courses and contribute to the enhancement of the developmental reading curriculum. Additional responsibilities of the position: collaborate with the Developmental Reading Curriculum Coordinator to design, create, and deliver an innovative and comprehensive developmental reading curriculum; assist with the assessment and evaluation of developmental reading students; work cooperatively with the Reading Center to offer individualized lab-based reading support services to students; collaborate with faculty in other areas to facilitate student transition from developmental to college-level coursework; advise students; maintain office hours; and participate in college service. Other related responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean.
Master’s Degree in Reading, but appropriate related discipline considered. Two years of full-time community college teaching experience (or equivalent) in developmental reading. Demonstrated success with curriculum design and course development. Demonstrated willingness and ability to integrate appropriate technology into teaching strategies. Experience with alternative modes of delivery of reading skills (e.g., individualized, computer-based, learning communities, web- based instruction, etc.) to students of varying abilities. Evidence of ability to work as a team player. Must possess excellent communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to assisting educationally disadvantaged, first generation, multi-cultural, bilingual, and developmental college student populations essential.
Background in developmental writing and teaching integrated skills. Demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive community college mission. Bicultural/Bilingual.
Salary: Anticipated starting salary range is $41,470.00 - $65,000.00 per academic year; complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience.
