College of Arts and Science (Office of the Dean): Academic Advisor to provide individual academic advising for students in the College of Arts and Science.  


  • Provide individual academic advising to undergraduate students, assist in academic planning and decision-making related to curriculum and academic program changes, and refer advisees to university resources as appropriate
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of targeted academic advising programs for groups such as: University Studies (undecided), international, transfer, and prospective students
  • Utilize career development resources to assist students with identifying an appropriate major and/or career
  • Participate in academic intervention and outreach efforts for “at-risk” students
  • Serve as a resource for faculty and other advisors across the University
  • Assist in developing individual and departmental long-range plans and objectives
  • Support the Office of Admission during campus visit programs by representing the College to prospective students and their families
  • Participate in academic advising services for the Summer Orientation program
  • Teach a first-year experience course (UNV 101: I am Miami)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean or Assistant Dean 

Minimum Qualifications


  • Master’s degree, which must be completed at the time of application
  • At least two years of advising experience in a university or college setting in academic, career, study abroad, or related areas, which may include experience gained during a related graduate program 

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or college student personnel 
  • Understanding of student development theory
  • Understanding of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education 
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, technological and collaborative skills
  • Experience with tools such as DARS,, AdvisorTrac, Educational Advisory Board/Student Success Collaborative, and Banner
