College of Arts and Science (Office of the Dean): Academic Advisor to provide individual academic advising for students in the College of Arts and Science.
Provide individual academic advising to undergraduate students, assist in academic planning and decision-making related to curriculum and academic program changes, and refer advisees to university resources as appropriate
Assist in the planning and implementation of targeted academic advising programs for groups such as: University Studies (undecided), international, transfer, and prospective students
Utilize career development resources to assist students with identifying an appropriate major and/or career
Participate in academic intervention and outreach efforts for “at-risk” students
Serve as a resource for faculty and other advisors across the University
Assist in developing individual and departmental long-range plans and objectives
Support the Office of Admission during campus visit programs by representing the College to prospective students and their families
Participate in academic advising services for the Summer Orientation program
Teach a first-year experience course (UNV 101: I am Miami)
Other duties as assigned by the Dean or Assistant Dean
Master’s degree, which must be completed at the time of application
At least two years of advising experience in a university or college setting in academic, career, study abroad, or related areas, which may include experience gained during a related graduate program
Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or college student personnel
Understanding of student development theory
Understanding of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education
Experience working with diverse student populations
Excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, technological and collaborative skills
Experience with tools such as DARS, transferology.com, AdvisorTrac, Educational Advisory Board/Student Success Collaborative, and Banner
