Synopsis of Role:

Management position focused upon providing employee relations support to Faculty members, Program and Faculty Directors, School Deans, and AVP Faculty Management.The incumbent will contribute to a range of activities related to faculty human resources and administration and work closely with APUS Academic & Human Resource departments.The incumbent will help develop and implement human resources policies and programs including personnel records, employee relations, job evaluations, and benefits as well as assist in long-term HR planning, APUS policy and procedures updates, monitoring performance evaluations, EEOC and FMLA compliance among APUS Faculty.Incumbent may have supervisory responsibility for non-exempt employee(s).Employee relations support may be expanded to include staff.

Essential Functions:

·Maintain a high degree of confidentiality when dealing with Faculty, Program/Faculty Directors, and School Deans on employee matters relative to the HR function.

·Provide customer service and updates to faculty, the Faculty HR & Administration Team, managers and vendors by responding to emails and phone calls within 24 – 48 hours.

·Serve as a link between Program/Faculty Directors and Faculty members by handling questions, interpreting and administering APUS policies and helping resolve work-related problems.

·Advise Program/Faculty Directors on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, and recommend changes as appropriate.

·Coordinate various functions to include but not limited to implementing and maintaining job evaluation to include job descriptions and job classification.

·Act as a resource to Program/Faculty Directors and Faculty members in resolving discrimination and harassment issues, performance and discipline concerns.

·Utilize the HRIS effectively to maintain employee database and produce ad-hoc reports as requested.

·Assist with benefits administration, compensation, performance appraisals, and other human resources functions.

·Respond to requests and attend hearings for unemployment compensation claims.

·Maintain and protects employee records as required by law and the company.Update HRIS database.

·Assist in development and delivery of training for remote employees as appropriate (UlitPro, PAD, Forms/Documents on Intranet).

·Contribute as a subject matter expert to Faculty Handbook, Employee Handbook, and Academic Operations Manual.

·Coordinate/contribute and report on special projects such as faculty exit interviews and faculty awards and recognition programs.

·Ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems (i.e. Faculty Qualifications & Transcripts, Faculty Waivers, etc.).

·Analyze internal processes; recommend and implement procedural or policy changes to improve efficiency.

·Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years of human resource generalists or employee relations experience is required.
  • SPHR/PHR certification strongly preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Primary office located in Charles Town, WV.
  • Standard office environment; sitting, walking, climbing stairs.
  • Infrequent travel may be necessary.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Extensive use of keyboard.
