The Student Health Center (SHC) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking applications for a Confidential Advocate-Victims Advocacy Specialist to join Student Health Services to provide services as an advocate to student victims of sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, and stalking. The person in this position must have the ability to analyze complex situations accurately, adopt effective courses of action, and advocate for student survivors of violence, in coordination with multiple campus departments and off-campus partners. This is a state of Illinois Preventing Violence in Higher Education Act mandated 12-month, full-time appointment. Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package and salary commensurate with experience.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years paid working experience with victims of sexual violence/sexual assault OR Master's degree with a minimum of one year paid experience working with victims of sexual violence/sexual assault. Minimum of 40 hours of training or certification in advocacy services for survivors of sexual violence/sexual assault must be completed prior to date of hire. Experience assessing levels of emotional distress. Demonstrated experience working with people of various racial, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities. Relative experience developing and implementing best practices or sexual violence prevention, risk reduction and survivor support strategies.
