Job Responsibilities

Develops and implements short and long-range strategic plans to advance the College’s mission in distance learning

Manages daily operations in the eLearning & Innovation department

Manages assigned budget and assigned staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluation

Fosters collaboration among disciplines, works with faculty, staff and administrators college-wide to achieve a shared vision for the College

Serves as a liaison between the Office of eLearning & Innovation and student support services on issues relating to serving the needs of online learners

Provides leadership to staff in the design, development, and delivery of technology-mediated learning

Leads the research, development, and execution of emerging and innovative methods for course delivery and instructional technology.

Collaborates with academic leadership to establish, implement, maintain, and evaluate quality assurance measures for technology-mediated learning

Collaborates with Foundation Office on grant opportunities relating to serving the needs of online learners

Provides supervision of compliance with online learning accreditation standards and industry regulations relating to online learning programs including state authorization and accessibility compliance

Collaborates and provides consultation to the Information Technology team to ensure the appropriate technology infrastructure in in support of online education delivery

Researches and stays current on contemporary issues relating to course development and quality assurance of technology-mediated and online learning, including copyright/intellectual property, online course design standards, and accessibility

Responsible for the implementation of metrics and tools that track both operational and educational success

Provides executive level staff support as requested and serves on assigned internal and external committees and task forces

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Master’s degree in a related field

Minimum of ten years of demonstrated significant operations, process, and project management experience including at least five years in a leadership role overseeing distance learning in higher education

Demonstrated online teaching experience at a two-year and/or four-year college or university

Strategic leadership, management, and planning experience

Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing and monitoring a business area’s budget

Demonstrated experience with compliance and quality standards, and higher education accreditation requirements related to online learning programs

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

Demonstrated experience and familiarity with Blackboard (or equivalent LMS)

Possess comprehensive knowledge of regulatory online learning theories, concepts, and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult, and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus


Knowledge of the issues and latest trends in higher education as they relate to distance education

Demonstrated advanced project management skills

Demonstrated success in cultivating strategic alliances and partnerships internally and externally

Strong commitment to providing customer service

Ability to gain creditability and facilitate agreement in a consensus based environment

Effective consultative, presentation, collaboration, and negotiation skills

Strong time management skills and ability to work effectively under the stress of timelines

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to collaborate with both internal and external regulatory agencies

Ability to work across organizational lines and effectively with various disciplinary faculty, program faculty, program managers, and deans

Preferred Qualifications


Doctoral degree in a related field
Demonstrated experience as an instructional designer or course developer

Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants
Demonstrated experience in the implementation of innovative learning models

Demonstrated experience working in a higher education environment

Demonstrated experience with Blackboard LMS

Evidence of professional publications and presentations within the field

Leadership and participation in national groups in eLearning (Educause, WCET, OLC, etc.)

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of operation, Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm
