Detailed Job Description

The IT Technical Specialist IV performs advanced IT activities for specialized, complex and/or functional areas requiring the expert knowledge and professional application of IT principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards and university policy. Requires a great amount of evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May be responsible for training, assisting or supervising lower level IT personnel and other staff. May lead projects and cross-functional activities.

Additional Department Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate University Registrar for Technology, provides software development, performs technical support and coordinates appropriate systems support to assure that the enterprise and personal computing needs of the Office of the University Registrar are met in order to facilitate effective business processes and functions. Interfaces directly with the Office of Information Technology as well as external software vendors to support, enhance, and maintain critical enterprise software applications which may be onsite, hosted, or cloud-based solutions, such as Student ERP, Workflow, Degree Audit, Learning Management System (LMS), and other software solutions. These duties include analyzing, designing, estimating, developing, documenting, testing, and implementing required changes to software applications, interfaces and processes. Serves as a data analyst using SQL as well as enterprise reporting and business intelligence tools to query data repositories on multiple platforms, generate reports, dashboards, graphics, and other output. Exercises independent action to resolve information technology system issues and problems between Student Information Systems and other University student/faculty systems. Routinely performs reporting, troubleshooting, and data analysis in response to requests from the University community, external agencies and individuals. Responsible for design and maintenance of the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) website. Serves as assistant and backup to the Associate University Registrar for Technology position.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional IT experience, OR Master's degree and 1 year of professional IT experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, education and/or certification from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been obtained. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional or security technology skills or knowledge of project management methods and applications. May require advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related discipline. Computer systems support experience to include database programming on multiple platforms and operating systems. Experience with networking, internet access and web development. Valid US driver's license required. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge:

Proficient in the knowledge of database structures, data retrieval (using SQL, PL/SQL, scripts and other database programming tools), spreadsheet applications, and web design/maintenance (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript). Understands complexities of data management and security procedures. Ability to analyze and interpret data and make decisions based on careful analysis and thoughtful judgments. Ability to think creatively in order to develop and apply innovative solutions to problems or situations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at both the technical level and with application users. Strong organizational and planning skills. Strong business/personal computing skills on multiple platforms (Windows, Unix/Linux).

Preferred Qualifications:

Three (3) years of work experience directly related to the responsibilities and job duties specified, including design, implementation, and analysis of data. Work experience in a Higher Education environment involving student academic records. Experience with enterprise applications and reporting in a large systems environment. Experience with web application programming (XML, Java, PHP). A clear understanding of University of Alabama policies. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
