Job Summary

Skidmore College invites applications for a Visiting Instruction Librarian. This is a two-year, full-time, twelve-month position with faculty status and the possibility for continuation. Lucy Scribner Library is engaged in an exciting initiative to develop an array of interactive learning tutorials. The library seeks a creative and enthusiastic instruction librarian to participate in this project.

As part of the instructional services team, the candidate will build and test online learning tools including information literacy modules, subject guides, and other web resources, as well as design methods for assessing the effectiveness of the resources produced. The Instruction Librarian will work regular shifts at the reference desk, and liaise with and provide instruction for academic departments as assigned. Applicants should demonstrate experience with information literacy pedagogy, assessment, and instructional technologies, particularly as they relate to the creation of interactive learning tutorials.

Minimum Qualifications

ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent; minimum of 3 years academic library experience (or other relevant experience); library instruction experience; experience in providing reference/research assistance; experience with software used in the creation of interactive learning tutorials (preferably Articulate); excellent oral and written communication skills; Strong service orientation; and ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.  

Preferred Qualifications

Graphic design skills;
Familiarity with emerging pedagogies; and
Successful experience using assessment methods and tools.
