FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION: SOCIOLOGY: (Department of Behavioral Sciences, Division of Foundational Studies and Liberal Arts and Sciences) (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: September 2013. Position contingent on available funding.
Teach both introductory and advanced Sociology courses; participate in curriculum and on-line course development; participate in college service including grants development, program review and assessment, student extracurricular activities and committee work; academically advise students; and maintain office hours.
Master’s degree in Sociology required. Must have at least two years of full-time (or equivalent) college teaching experience in Sociology. Applicants must demonstrate: a high level of enthusiasm; strong work ethic; flexibility; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; and the ability to integrate collaborative learning and appropriate technology into teaching strategies. Demonstrated ability to teach within, and contribute positively to a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and campus environment is required.
PREFERENCES: Ph.D. is preferred. Preference will be given to someone who has demonstrated ability to teach Introduction to Sociology as well as advanced courses such as Criminology, Death and Dying, and Contemporary Social Problems. Experience teaching at a community college, with demonstrated sensitivity to academically disadvantaged students, is preferred, as is experience with curriculum development and implementation. We are seeking candidates with experience and commitment to community engagement/service learning. Bicultural/Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
Salary: Anticipated starting salary range is $41,470.00 - $65,000.00 per academic year; complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary will be determined in accordance with classification determination of MCCC/MTA salary schedule commensurate with education and experience.
