Berklee’s Global Initiatives department supports the College’s strategic vision of bringing the Berklee experience around the world. The Global Initiatives team creates connections and expands the reach of contemporary music education by engaging other cultures and discovering new musical ideas. They create programs and partnerships that help Berklee identify and discover talented musicians around the world, and strive to provide them with opportunities to take their passion for music to the next level.

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs/Provost, the Associate Vice President of Global Initiatives leads the implementation of the mission, vision and strategic goals of Berklee’s international educational programs abroad, including Berklee International Network (BIN), Berklee on the Road, Berklee Latino, Berklee India Exchange, etc.

This key leadership role will further expand Berklee’s international presence through the College’s growing network of international programs. He/she will develop and manage events, partnerships, and collaborations to enhance our musical and academic presence in the world. The successful candidate will possess a personal and professional commitment to music and arts education and its impact on students throughout the world.


  • Serve as a member of Berklee’s President’s Council leadership team
  • Under the guidance and direction of the SVP of Academic Affairs/Provost, participate in setting and implementing the strategy and specific annual goals and targets for the program and its continued expansion
  • Balance visionary educational leadership, strategic thinking with strong tactical educational skills to develop, implement and oversee new and existing international education programs for the College
  • Develop educational criteria, establish educational programs for the College and build on the success of our already well-established international programs.
  • Engage in a high level of collaboration with our partners inside and outside of the College to support our institutional mission through our global initiatives and comprehensive enrollment strategy
  • Extensive collaboration with members of Admissions, Scholarship/Financial Aid Office, colleagues throughout the two academic campuses in Boston and Valencia and other members of the Berklee community.
  • Ensure that all US and global music education programs are aligned and reflect consistency with the College’s academic philosophy and educational standards
  • Establish and foster strong working relationships with Berklee leaders in the US and around the world
  • Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with international educational institutions, including the Berklee International Network
  • Help Berklee scholars forge and nurture institutional partnerships with universities, governments, regulatory organizations, and other entities including local and regional communities; aid deans and faculty seeking to expand their global programs
  • Support continuous college efforts to develop leaders in the music industry on a global level
  • Generate opportunities for students and strengthen connections with the music industry in different regions of the world; focus on expanding opportunities for collaboration and impact
  • Provide leadership, direction and professional development opportunities for the Global Initiatives team
  • Represent Berklee at myriad international musical events
  • Serve as a resource to increase the College’s connections throughout the world


Leads a team of ten global initiatives staff, providing guidance direction and continuous learning and professional development opportunities.


Extensive international travel is required and is an essential function of the position.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a minimum of five years administrative experience in global music related professional or educational environments
  • Proficiency in more than one language is preferred
  • 8-10 years progressive experience on a broad range of international educational projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in international affairs and international relations
  • Seasoned professional with a proven track record of innovative and entrepreneurial approaches
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working internationally
  • Experience bringing together musicians and students to collaborate across the academic/musical spectrum
  • Experience and demonstrated success with fundraising efforts is desirable
