(Multiple positions) Instructors for established hybrid courses offered by Project Dragonfly at Miami University. Includes in-person instruction during ~ 10 day field experience in summer and web-only instruction from April through December. Opportunity for renewal based on available funding and performance. Instructors are required to have access to the web and may reside outside Ohio. This is a part-time instructional staff position, not eligible for health care insurance.
Compensation: $2,500 for 7 credit course (5 credits summer + 2 credits fall); travel expenses for summer field experience.
Instructors work with a creative university team of faculty and staff at Project Dragonfly and its partnership programs (Global Field Program, Advanced Inquiry Program and Earth Expeditions) to instruct graduate-level online courses offered through Miami University. All courses are pre-designed by Project Dragonfly and include course-specific Instructor Guides and online support workshops. The Instructor will collaborate with Project Dragonfly staff and work to maintain the overall academic quality of their courses. Duties include reviewing course curriculum and student projects, interacting in the field and online, assessing and grading student work, and submitting final grades.
Master’s degree in the fields of biology, wildlife conservation, resource management, environmental or life science education, or a related field; at least five years of experience in these or similar fields after earning the degree. The applicant must meet the qualification criteria for Graduate Level Standing at Miami University. Consistent access to the web is required.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, temporary resident (admitted for residence as an applicant under the 1986 immigration amnesty law), refugee or asylee.
Applicant should have the relevant background and proven skills necessary to perform the required duties including excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of student and instructional support; organizational skills with attention to detail and a commitment of working in a team environment; ability and willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively; and strong facilitation skills for working with a diverse instructional team and student body.
A doctoral degree. Experience with web-based courses and instruction. Specialized knowledge in content areas offered by Project Dragonfly (e.g., conservation, ecology, evolution, participatory and inquiry-driven education, and community engagement). Experience with web tools for collaboration including Skype, Google apps, web conferencing, and creation of video/instructional media.
