Saint Louis University, a Catholic Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, invites applications from within SLU’s faculty for the position of Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.
On behalf of the Provost, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs is responsible for leading, overseeing, and coordinating – at the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels – the development, implementation, and assessment of academic programs, academic policies, and academic support services and programs (those offered via the Division of Academic Affairs and those offered in partnership with the Division of Student Development). The Associate Provost will also oversee the University-wide Academic Program Review (APR) process and serves as the Provost’s Office representative handling student academic and financial appeals. The scope of the Associate Provost’s duties includes all University campuses and off-campus locations, nationally and internationally.
In fulfilling these duties, the Associate Provost will work directly and regularly with the following colleagues University-wide:
University Vice Presidents and Executive Staff (especially the Vice Presidents for Research, Enrollment Management, and Student Development, and the Director of the Madrid Campus)
Associate and Assistant Provosts
Deans and Directors of all of SLU’s Colleges, Schools, and Centers
Academic and Administrative Department Chairs
Directors of Academic and Academic Support Programs (in Academic Affairs and Student Development)

Responsibilities at the Baccalaureate Level
The Associate Provost will chair the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Committee (UAAC) and serve as its liaison with the Faculty Senate, the Council of Academic Deans and Directors, the Student Government Association, and other shared governance bodies and decision-makers. Related units/individuals reporting directly to the Associate Provost currently include:

Center for Undergraduate Research & Scholarship
Institutional Research Analyst for Undergraduate Education
Additionally, the Associate Provost will provide administrative leadership for academic advising across campus, as well as provide leadership for the execution and expansion of the learning communities and retention and student success programs. As part of the Associate Provost’s portfolio of duties related to her/his role as the primary liaison between the Division of Academic Affairs and the Division of Student Development, the Associate Provost will serve on multiple standing committees and task forces.
Responsibilities at the Post-Baccalaureate Level
The Associate Provost will chair the Graduate Academic Affairs Committee (GAAC) and serve as its liaison with the Faculty Senate, the Council of Academic Deans and Directors, the Graduate Student Association, and other shared governance bodies and decision-makers; she/he will also chair the Associate Deans & Directors group. In the context of post-baccalaureate education, reporting directly to the Associate Provost is the Office of Graduate Education. The office is responsible for the administration and coordination of academic programs and policies at the post-baccalaureate level; monitoring and certifying the progress of degree candidates; thesis and dissertation reviews; and related academic and administrative oversight.
Additionally, the Associate Provost will work closely with the Vice President for Research, particularly in the context of research-oriented, doctoral-level, academic programs that will be supported by the resources and leadership of the Office of Research Services.
Qualifications for the Position
Candidates for this position must currently be tenured at the rank of Associate Professor (required) or Full Professor (preferred) at Saint Louis University and have at least five years of significant experience administering academic programs at the department and/or program chair level or higher. Candidates must have experience leading collaborative, inclusive organizational change through shared governance bodies. In addition, the candidate must have the ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, students, staff, and external constituencies (including parents, accrediting bodies, corporate and community leaders, and public and private funding organizations). Candidates’ prior teaching, research, and service at SLU must evidence an embodiment of the University’s Catholic, Jesuit identity and mission.
The position is a full-time faculty appointment with an administrative stipend.
