Under general direction, oversees research activities within the lab; supervises and trains staff; arranges purchases and maintains all equipment in the research laboratory area; implements safety plans; investigates and develops new research methods; collaborates with investigators within and outside of the University.
Knowledge of sound laboratory practices, research processes, and equipment

Bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry; supplemented with five to eight (5-8) years of laboratory experience, preferably in an academic research setting.
Prepares genomic libraries for genome-wide analysis using next generation sequencing; generates constructs to prepare genetically altered transgenic, knock-out, and knock-in mice; performs biochemical analyses of protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions; uses high-level cell culture methods, including isolation, culture, and analysis of primary stem cells from embryonic mouse tissues and their manipulation, which includes siRNA knock down, cell differentiation protocols, and analysis by flow cytometry.
Develops experimental methodologies; documents and ensures compliance with laboratory procedures; designs experiments; analyzes results; and troubleshoots experimental problems.
Develops preliminary data for new avenues of investigation.
Contributes to the writing of scientific papers.
Instructs graduate students in laboratory procedures and technologies.
Manages laboratory by determining supplies needed for upcoming experiments, planning and scheduling experiments, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
