Detailed Job Description

This licensed professional counselor is responsible for providing short-term counseling and referral for issues related to academic performance, crisis intervention, self-help resources, and outreach activities for students; outreach and consultation to faculty and staff; and liaison to county services. This licensed professional counselor will assist with advising students during peak registration times.This position requires a license from the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as either a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.  

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in counseling required. Minimum of three years experience in a combination of academic and/or personal counseling in a postsecondary academic setting required. A license from the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as either a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor is required. Working knowledge of student development theories required. Minimum of two years experience in crisis intervention required. Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, ability to master student information systems. Ability to work at all AACC locations during regular operating hours. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with all student groups, faculty, administrators, professional and support staff and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

Counseling/advising/crisis experience in a community college setting preferred.
