Job Responsibilities

Works with EVP WCED and other key WCED leadership to develop, in collaboration with the Integrated Communications Department, a marketing strategy for WCED that appropriately characterizes the WCED division’s role in delivering workforce training within the region

Establishes and maintains positive relationships with key community and strategic partners of WCED

Represents WCED to build awareness and connections in the community through networking, public speaking and event attendance

Takes the lead on strengthening community partnerships and expanding engagement with businesses, individuals, educational institutions and community-based organizations through a variety of measured outreach efforts

Serves as advisor to the EVP of WCED and other key leaders on issues of strategic importance regarding internal communications and external affairs for the division

Serves as key speech writing resource and advisor to EVP WCED and other leaders in the Division

Assists Corporate College representatives in business development efforts by identifying and maintaining productive relationships with key business leaders

In collaboration with Integrated Communications, develops a tactical communication plan to carry out the approved marketing strategy of the Division

Develops and utilizes comprehensive knowledge of all WCED programs along with workforce needs within the NE Ohio region in the development and execution of the WCED marketing strategy and tactical communication plan

Maintains a working knowledge of workforce development needs and trends locally and nationally

Plans, conceptualizes, gathers and writes content about the workforce division for print and electronic newsletters, websites, blogs, social media postings and press releases

Conducts interviews with students, employers, faculty and administrators for stories

Maintains workforce content on tri-c.edu and KWeb (intranet), including web pages, events calendar listings and shared documents

Creates and publishes WCED monthly newsletter

Serves as division liaison with the Integrated Communications Department

Assists Integrated Communications staff in the coordination of marketing activities related to workforce programs; may include advertising, direct mailings, recruiting events, college fairs, fundraisers, etc.

Assists in the preparation of white papers, articles, blog posts and other content by division faculty and staff to position Tri-C as an expert in the workforce arena

Takes the lead on preparing the workforce division’s Bi-Weekly Report submitted to the College president

Researches and stays abreast of competitors’ workforce marketing campaigns

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree Marketing, Journalism, or a related field and/or a minimum of ten years of demonstrated marketing, communications, journalism, interactive media or related experience

Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a business area’s budget

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling and ensuring the quality of the work of others


Possess comprehensive knowledge of marketing and communications theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with demonstrated attention to detail

Ability to be creative and exercise initiative

Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Possess excellent editing/proofreading skills

Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

Work accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to adjust to changing priorities and respond appropriately to deadlines

Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes

Proven leadership skills and ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively

Demonstrated advanced Project Management skills

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft: Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (or equivalent programs)

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Preferred Qualifications


Demonstrated marketing, communications, and/or workforce development experience in a higher education environment

Demonstrated experience/familiarity with advertising planning and placement

Work Schedule

Standard college hours of operation, Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm
