The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (COM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever-changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean of Curriculum who will join the founding Dean’s staff in leading the School into the future.
The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.
The Associate Dean of Curriculum is a physician or academic scholar with demonstrated success in the administration and assessment of medical education curricula. She/he collaborates with the Curriculum Committee to ensure medical education is mapped to desired competencies and objectives while meeting accreditation standards. This person provides leadership and direction in creating communication mechanisms, evaluation procedures and accountability structures to assure educational excellence.
The Associate Dean of Curriculum works with the Vice Dean of Student and Faculty Experience and Regional Campus Deans to assure the spectrum of medical education is administered and assessed consistently across all campus locations in accordance with best practices.
•Doctor of Medicine MD with Board Certification in his / her specialty or PhD in a health sciences or closely related field or equivalent experience.
•Experience at rank of Assistant Professor or higher at an accredited medical school in the United States.
•5 or more years of progressively responsible experience in clinical education or teaching in a medical school.
•Demonstrated success in curriculum administration at a LCME accredited medical school or academic health setting.
•Demonstrated understanding of medical education trends particularly competency based educations, milestones and EPAs.
•Experience which demonstrates the ability to apply and assess new technologies to curriculum administration.
•Experience managing professionals in a complex organization.
•Acknowledged excellent communicator, written and verbal.
•Experienced in the use of social networking technology for communications.
