The University of La Verne’s College of Education and Organizational Leadership (CEOL) is seeking an experienced and visionary leader as the La Fetra Family Endowed Chair for Excellence in Teaching and Service. This position will serve as Chair of the Teacher Education Program and Master’s in Education Programs. Candidates must posses a distinguished record of service in higher education leadership and scholarship appropriate for a tenure track or tenured appointment at the level of associate or full professor. Candidates must have demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with faculty, administrators, school district personnel, and community partners.

The Chair will provide academic and administrative leadership for 14 faculty members in the Teacher Education and Master’s Programs. This is a full-time, tenure track or tenured position with significant administrative oversight of several graduate programs, on the main campus and at five regional campuses.

The multiple and single subject credential teacher preparation programs address teaching strategies for all students in California schools. Integrated throughout the programs are methodologies to deliver comprehensive instruction to English learners and to work with special populations in the general education classroom. In addition to the multiple and single subject credentials, the Teacher Education Program offers an Enhanced Intern Credential, a Bilingual authorization, and a California Teachers of English Learners certificate.

Specific Duties

1. Maintain oversight of visionary implementation and day-to-day operations of the Teacher Education Program and the Master’s of Education Programs. Provide leadership, in collaboration with other college-wide education programs, for the CEOL Graduate Academy.

2. Implementation of the College mission, the University Mission and Strategic Vision.

3. Maintain oversight of state credentialing (CCTC) and accreditation (CAEP)requirements for Teacher Education, in addition to university program reviews.

4. Develop and maintain relationships with PK-12 school districts.

5. Assume ongoing responsibility for recruitment, support, and evaluation of faculty, including tenure and promotion.

6. Administration of main campus programs, including responsibility for academic quality, oversight of course offerings, and addressing student issues.

7. Oversight of Regional and Online Campus cohorts, with responsibility for academic quality.

8. Teach courses in the Teaching Credential and Masters Programs.

9. Serve as program/department/college representative at the University level, and with community partners.

10. Serve on college and university committees, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Education or a related field, professional experience and documented achievement commensurate with an Associate or Full Professor, including a record of successful teaching, scholarly, published research, and community involvement.

Possession of a valid public school K-12 teaching credential.

Minimum of 3 years experience teaching in a PK-12 public school environment.

Documented experience working with a diverse student population, and within a diverse public education system.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong leadership capabilities, including a demonstrated commitment to integrity and fairness.

Knowledge of current pedagogy and significant skill in teaching in an online environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Higher education experience administering complex academic programs.

Record of preparing teachers to work in a culturally and linguistically diverse context.

Experience in urban educational and/or school settings is highly desired.

Current knowledge of Teacher Preparation and related programs in California.

Current research agenda in teacher education and ability to conduct scholarly activities in the field.
