The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) seeks to fill a tenure-track, full-time, 12-month position within the Veterinary Medical Oncology section. The position is offered at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, depending upon qualifications, and is available immediately. The position will contribute to a team whose primary mission will be clinical teaching, clinical service and scholarship.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Successful applicants will have responsibility to teach and mentor professional veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students in clinical and didactic (classroom) settings on topics related to veterinary oncology; will provide health care and service to oncology patients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital; will advise and consult with referring veterinarians and clients regarding medical oncology cases; will develop a creative, independent/collaborative, basic and/or clinically-oriented research program in medical oncology or an allied field; and will provide leadership in directing research projects of residents and graduate students. The successful applicant must be able to effectively communicate and work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
The candidate must possess a DVM or related degree (such as BVSc), have completed an approved Medical Oncology residency and be board eligible in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Medical Oncology (ACVIM) before date of hire.
Preferred qualifications include board certification in ACVIM, specialty of Medical Oncology, an advanced degree (Masters or PhD in veterinary medicine or closely related field); a record of research or scholarly productivity commensurate with their level of training; and evidence of expertise in teaching and advising, consulting and communicating with referring DVM’s and clients regarding medical oncology cases.
Level of position hired is dependent upon the level of experience the final candidate has in the specialty area.
