The successful applicant must be a dedicated interactive clinical radiologist, able to effectively communicate and work well with a diverse group of people. High quality clinical work and clinical teaching excellence of veterinary students, interns, and residents is expected and recognized as an important component for promotion. While this position is heavily weighted toward clinical responsibilities, didactic and laboratory teaching is also a component of this appointment. This position also provides opportunity for scholarly activity in the form of independent and/or collaborative basic and/or clinical research.
The imaging service currently consists of 3 radiologists, 3 imaging residents, 2 imaging interns, and 2 support staff providing service for a very active and diverse in-house and referral caseload.
The in-house diagnostic imaging facility is a well-equipped, filmless and paperless section. Equipment includes small and large animal radiology suites with Canon DR units, and additional suites with Vieworks DR units and Fuji CR, and a Philips fluoroscopy unit. Ultrasound is equipped with one MyLab Twice, two MyLab 70’s, and one MyLab 30. We have a nuclear scintigraphy system by MIE, and a Toshiba Aquilion 16 slice helical CT with a dedicated large animal table. There is a 1T Philips MRI unit using well established protocols, and a current fundraising campaign is underway targeting replacement in 2015. The Elekta linear accelerator is currently operated by the Oncology Service, however, collaboration is welcomed.
The candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree (such as BVSc), have completed an approved Radiology/Imaging residency and is ACVR board-eligible or certified before date of hire.
Preferred qualifications include ACVR board certification, an advanced degree (Masters or PhD in veterinary medicine or closely related field), a record of scholarly productivity, and evidence of expertise in teaching.
Level of position hired is dependent upon the level of experience the final candidate has in the specialty area.
The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) seeks to fill a clinical track, full-time, 12-month position within the Veterinary Radiology/Diagnostic Imaging section of its Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The position is offered at the Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor rank, depending upon qualifications, and is available immediately. The position will join a team whose primary mission will be clinical teaching, clinical service and scholarship.
AREA OVERVIEW: The mission of VCS is to serve the community through education and through generation and dissemination of new information, for the benefit of animal and human health and well-being. The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/, is organized into five departments, including VCS, Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology (VMP), Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN), the School of Molecular Biosciences (SMB), and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health each dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service. The CVM and VCS faculty have research strengths in infectious diseases, pain management, and neuroscience. A core clinical research group in pharmacogenomics has been recently identified as a research focus within VCS with the strategic plan to expand this into a generalized clinical focus in individualized medicine. This will provide diverse research opportunities for the applicant interested in genetic relationships to disease.
