Job ID: 2406

The International Student Advisor will provide support for international students on campus by offering visa and immigration advising, assisting with orientation and other programs, and offering counseling related to acculturation and academic difficulties. 



  • Approximately 80% of this position consists of advising international students
  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO)
  • Advise F-1 students on issues related to maintenance of legal status
  • Assist with SEVIS reporting
  • Process visa documents and other related paperwork
  • Counsel students who are experiencing academic difficulty

Student support

  • Approximately 20% of this position consists of general support for international students
  • Assist with international student orientation, programs, and workshops as needed
  • Liase with other campus units to provide training and advocacy related to international student support


  • Follow university policies and procedures related to purchasing, accounts payable, personnel, payroll, volunteers, payroll, and participant travel
  • Correspond with students, parents, faculty and staff with diplomacy, discretion and judgment; draft and prepare correspondence

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of SEVIS and F-1 regulations
  • Computer and software knowledge and skills
  • Superior time management, organization, and communication (written and verbal)
  • Strong intercultural communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex and multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Federal regulations require that this position be held by a US citizen or US permanent resident

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience working with university-level international students in the US
  • Familiarity with Banner
  • Familiarity with Sunapsis
