American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 70+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings with a total of approximately 660,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has 3500 graduate and undergraduate students. AIC offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the Schools of Business, Arts and Sciences; Health Sciences; and Education. The mission of the College is to transform student lives through career focused learning, with a strong foundation in the liberal arts, a commitment to serving the community, and a high level of involvement in the global economy.

Under the direction of the President, the Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the development, coordination, and assessment of campus-wide integrated marketing communications efforts to position the university strategically with its diverse constituencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing and public relations
  • Diversified background in traditional and new media marketing communications
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective written communication vehicles for diverse stakeholders
  • Exceptional communications and writing skills
  • Goal oriented, with a strong respect for the importance of data; at the same time, cognizant of the importance of process and creating buy-in for a coordinated communication and marketing function
  • Extensive project management experience
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and online analytics tools
  • A history of seeking out and developing collaborative relationships with internal constituencies in order to define and accomplish common goals
  • A high level of technological literacy, with a broad knowledge and understanding of current and emerging communications technologies
  • Experience managing a small team of communications professionals in a large organization
  • Thorough understanding of market segmentation, principles of marketing, integrated marketing communications principles and branding
  • Previous experience managing a budget
  • Professional experience in higher education preferred
  • Essential Functions

  • Overseeing the production of marketing materials that support communication plans developed by the Office of Admissions and the Office of Institutional Advancement
  • Overseeing and leading the overall brand identity strategy of the college and implementing ways to promote the college as a whole as well as specific programs and initiatives
  • Devising strategy that optimizes the college’s website
  • Guiding the production of the colleges many web, print, video, and social-media assets
  • Facilitating external communications with diverse audiences, including prospective students, alumni, parents, friends, and media
  • Managing internal communications programs and strategies
  • Directing the creative development and placement of advertising within the framework of a multimodal, national media strategy
  • Directing the marketing and communications budget
  • Developing and maintaining benchmarks to measure the success of strategic marketing communications
  • Serving as the institutional expert on the impact of emerging trends in higher education on marketing communications planning.
