Detailed Job Description

The Director of the Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum is responsible for the planning and oversight of the museum to include staffing financial management, facility operations, exhibits, events, fundraising, educational programming and public relations. The Museum is the property of the City of Tuscaloosa which has contracted with the University of Alabama Museums to operate the facility and hire the position of museum director.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor's degree in museum studies, history, education or other relevant field and at least three (3) years of experience working in a museum or similar educational setting or other relevant experience; or a Master's degree or higher in museum studies, history, education or other relevant field and at least one (1) year experience working in a museum or similar educational setting or other relevant experience. Experience may include public relations, marketing, collections policies and practice, museum educational programs, exhibit design and/or fundraising at a supervisory level.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge:

Position requires knowledge of personal computers and standard software programs such as word processing, spreadsheet applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree or higher in museum studies, history, education or other relevant field and two (2) years of experience in museum management is preferred. Knowledge of UA and City of Tuscaloosa financial and budget policies and procedures is preferred. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
