The Research Intern for the Agricultural Animal Health Program with the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine will conduct research for a portion of a USDA grant focused on calf health and antimicrobial resistance. The primary data and sample collection will be on commercial-scale dairy farms. The incumbent will collect biological samples from animals and conduct the necessary microbiology lab work. The work location for this position will be split between Pullman, WA and Prosser, WA based on research needs.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing professional-level work with scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; interviewing experience; excellent organizational and project management skills.
Experience working in a research laboratory.
Ability to speak and write in English and Spanish.
Experience and interest in dairy production systems, especially an understanding of appropriate handling of cattle and collection of animal health data.
Demonstrated experience in maintaining data integrity for laboratory samples and results.
