Program Description:

The Movement is a student led program managed by the college’s Office of Community and Government Relations (CGR) that facilitates student, faculty, staff and alumni volunteer initiatives that feature music as a medium for social change. Volunteers collaborate with partner organizations to conduct a broad range of activities including youth mentorship, performance outreach, and musical instruction.

Position Description:

The Temporary President of The Movement is responsible for creating and managing music based volunteer initiatives that serve Boston-area communities and include Berklee students, faculty, staff and alumni. S/he will serve as liaison to the college’s community partner sites, and coordinate program related activities. The Temporary President of The Movement will also serve as the Student Employee Supervisor; in this capacity, s/he will assist the Manager of Communications and Special Events in the management of The Movement work-study team and volunteers. S/he will serve as peer mentor, coach and team leader to the work-study and volunteer team members in the CGR office. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop volunteer projects at the various community partner sites utilizing students, faculty, staff and alumni.
  • Recruit qualified Berklee students for employment in the Community Service Employment Program.
  • Recruit members of the Berklee community to participate in various volunteer initiatives.
  • Track and document all program related activities
  • Create ways to integrate the work of The Movement into the programming of other departments at the college.
  • Support the Manager of Communications and Special Events in the management of work-study employees for The Movement
  • Serve as peer mentor, coach and team leader to the work-study and volunteer team members in the CGR office
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Interest in promoting music as a medium for social change as well as demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse groups.
  • Must be able communicate in an articulate, cordial and professional manner.
  • Proficiency in contemporary communication tools such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, as well as familiarity with contemporary office systems technology including, word processing, e-mail and spreadsheet applications required. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, and Keynote a plus.
  • Proven ability to work & lead effectively in a highly diverse campus community

  • Experience working in community outreach and volunteer initiatives.
