The Civil Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin Fall 2012.
The Position: The successful candidate will have primary expertise in Environmental Engineering, with skills and interest in the application to civil engineering practice.
The primary responsibilities for this position are to teach the theory and practice of civil engineering to both undergraduate and graduate students. Additional responsibilities include supervising student projects, advising students, serving on department, college, and university committees, enhancing laboratory facilities, generating external funding, and other related duties.
The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and a commitment to service to the university. Candidates whose work incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.
• A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in civil engineering or a closely-related field at the time of appointment
• A minimum of two years post-baccalaureate professional civil engineering work experience
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Commitment to working with diverse student and community populations
Professional registration as a licensed civil engineer or licensed land surveyor in California will be required before tenure can be granted.
Additional professional experience, teaching experience, and/or P.E. license is preferred
Preferable expertise in Hazardous Waste, Solid Waste and Treatment.
Demonstrated ability in applied research and/or in developing industry contacts
Demonstrated ability in teaching, developing and supporting Civil Engineering laboratories
Demonstrated ability to be responsive to the educational equity goals of the university and its increasing ethnic and international character.
