The Department of Teaching and Learning invites applications for a tenure-eligible faculty position at the assistant/associate professor level for its expanding mathematics education program. We seek creative scholars with potential for securing externally supported funding, working in collaborative contexts, initiating scholarly activity, mentoring graduate students, and providing direction and support to the mathematics education mission across all four campuses of the university, and across the region and the nation. We seek scholars who show potential for contributing to existing program strengths and projects. This position builds on our current momentum in mathematics education evidenced by significant and recent increases in externally-supported projects, doctoral program development, and personnel. The College of Education seeks applicants with a demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds and ideologies in a global environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct scholarly research in mathematics education; secure external funding to support the research and professional development missions of WSU; teach graduate and undergraduate courses in mathematics education, including mathematics methods courses and courses in the Mathematics and Science Education PhD program; provide leadership and participate in an interdisciplinary team committed to effective teacher education and doctoral student mentoring; develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with professionals in schools, university peers, and community agencies; and initiate and participate in mathematics education activity at the local, state, and national levels.
1) Earned doctorate in mathematics education or a related field before date of hire;
2) Demonstrated record of scholarship relative to the expertise area;
3) Practical knowledge of or demonstrated record in K-12 mathematics teaching. Candidates for Associate Professor required to have served at least 6 years as an assistant professor or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research on important and timely problems in mathematics education, including in collaborative contexts.
• Demonstrated ability or potential for securing extramural funding and procuring and managing external funds.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations or incorporate issues of diversity into researching, teaching, or service.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to communicate effectively with students and colleagues, to mentor graduate students, and to teach in mathematics-related undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional programs.
• Highly qualified candidates must demonstrate an ability to lead collaborative partnerships with K-12 schools, university peers, or community agencies and to teach through distance education.
