Clinical Practice Based-Expertise

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Division (DPT) at Duke University seeks to recruit a physical therapist with a terminal academic degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc, or ScD) who is interested in joining a progressive faculty that are immersed in the use of innovative teaching methods. Qualified applicants must be eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the state of North Carolina. Responsibilities will include instructional effort in courses related to: a) their content expertise, b) traditional physical therapy foundational coursework, c) service to the division (e.g., committee work) and to the profession, d) research, and e) student mentorship/advising/research oversight. Clinical practice opportunities are also available and negotiable. Educational collaboration and support is available through Duke AHEAD, an organization of Duke Health Professions Educators.

In addition to having an academic doctoral degree applicants are encouraged to have an ABPTS certification, residency or fellowship training, or evidence of expertise through a research line of inquiry.  The search committee seeks applicants from a diverse pool of candidates with the following additional qualifications or attributes:

  1. Experience in, and a commitment to, excellence in teaching and mentoring physical therapist learners,
  2. Experience working with diverse patient populations,
  3. History of continued scholarly output and contributions in the area of the candidate’s expertise,
  4. An excellent communicator and innovative thinker,
  5. An educator who nurtures learning in a diversity rich environment,
  6. Organizational and program development skills.

The position is a 12-month core faculty appointment with salary and rank commensurate with qualification and experience.
